Alex Van Halen co-founded Van Halen with his brother Eddie in Pasadena, California, and his powerful, driving drumming anchored one of the most commercially successful hard rock bands of the late 1970s and 1980s, beginning with their 1978 debut album, which has been certified Diamond in the United States. His work on tracks such as "Hot for Teacher," with its rapid double bass drum introduction, made him an influential figure for hard rock and metal drummers. Through the 1990s the band continued to top the Billboard 200 with albums including For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, which earned a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance, and Alex Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the band in 2007.
