Offered Here: Beatles 1965 Help! RIAA Gold Record White Matte Award Presented to The Beatles
Item Details: This is an exceptional piece of rock and roll history, featuring a rare RIAA authentic white matte gold record award for the Beatles landmark 1965 album, Help!. This coveted award is officially presented to The Beatles themselves, making it a premier artifact from the height of Beatlemania. White matte awards from this era are highly sought after by elite collectors due to their limited production and historical significance. Housed in its period wood frame and featuring the iconic off-white linen matte, this display measures approximately 17 1/2 x 21 1/2 inches and represents a monumental milestone in the legacy of the world's most influential band.
Help! served as the soundtrack to the Beatles' second feature film, directed by Richard Lester, and its title song reached No. 1 in both the United Kingdom and the United States in 1965. The record captured the band at a point of transition, as John Lennon's more personal lyrics and Paul McCartney's "Yesterday," recorded with a string quartet and included on the UK edition, signaled the introspective songwriting and studio ambition that would define Rubber Soul and the albums that followed. In this period the Recording Industry Association of America awarded gold album certification on the basis of $1 million in sales, a measure the Beatles reached repeatedly as they dominated the American charts in the mid-1960s.
Condition: The item is offered in good condition, exhibiting honest signs of wear, aging, and storage consistent with a vintage award of this era. The white linen matte shows some staining along the bottom edge. The gold record itself has developed natural tarnishing and discoloration in several areas, which underscores its aged authenticity. The original wood frame shows a lifetime of handling with multiple marks, nicks, and bumps, retaining a beautifully weathered character that adds to its vintage appeal.
