Offered Here: Classic Rock 1969-1977 Lot of 5 West Coast Concert Handbills & Concert Ticket With COA

Item Details: This is a premier auction opportunity to acquire a remarkable lot of six historic pieces documenting West Coast classic rock history from 1969 through 1977. This carefully curated collection features five vintage concert handbills and one original concert ticket, representing an incredible roster of iconic artists during rock's most influential era. The lot includes an early 1969 Joe Cocker handbill from the Rose Palace, a 1969 New Year's Eve Canned Heat handbill from the Shrine Hall, a Three Dog Night handbill for a May 8 performance at the Shrine Auditorium with an unknown and possibly rescheduled year, a May 3, 1970 Jethro Tull handbill from San Fernando Valley State College, and a May 21, 1977 Tower of Power handbill from UCSB. Compleing this stellar collection is a rare, original Rose Palace concert ticket from January 17, 1970, for a powerhouse lineup featuring Lee Michaels, Eric Burdon and WAR, Alice Cooper, and Messiah. Four of the handbills measure approximately 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches, while the Tower of Power piece presents in a larger format of approximately 6 1/4 x 9 3/4 inches. This instant collection offers a comprehensive look at the thriving California music scene of the era and is a must-have archive for serious rock ephemera collectors.

Provenance / Authenticity: This lot originates directly from the personal collection of Mark Stone, a multi-talented artist who was the original bass player and backing vocalist for Mammoth and Van Halen from 1972 to 1974 and an accomplished luthier. As a foundational figure in the band's legendary early history, Stone performed on their seminal studio demos and extended his creative contributions by designing the iconic original band logo utilized by Mammoth and early Van Halen. Offered directly from his estate, these historic items will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by an authorized representative of the Stone estate.

Between the late 1960s and mid-1970s, Southern California venues such as Pasadena's Rose Palace, the Shrine Auditorium and Exposition Hall in Los Angeles, and nearby college campuses formed an important circuit for touring rock acts and up-and-coming bands. The artists on these bills span the era's range: Joe Cocker and Canned Heat, both Woodstock performers in 1969, Eric Burdon and War, Alice Cooper before its commercial breakthrough, Jethro Tull, Three Dog Night and Oakland's horn-driven Tower of Power. The same Pasadena-area scene produced Van Halen, who built their following at local parties, clubs and halls through the early and mid-1970s before signing with Warner Bros. in 1977.

Condition: All six items are in very good condition overall, presenting beautifully with common signs of wear, aging, and storage consistent with genuine vintage paper artifacts. Across the collection, the pieces display foxing at the edges and mild edge wear, with some items exhibiting minor corner bumps and mild staining. Specific individual attributes include the Canned Heat handbill, which was previously folded twice, and the Jethro Tull handbill, which has a single previous fold and pin holes in the corners. The Lee Michaels concert ticket shows standalone edge wear, corner bumps, and distinct creasing localized to the lower right corner.
