This auction features a rare piece of 1970s underground art and punk ephemera: an original 1979 half-sized zine titled Okupant X, created by the influential graphic artist Gary Panter. Published by Diana's Bimonthly Press, this zine captures the raw, avant-garde aesthetic that defined Panter’s early career. This specific copy carries exceptional provenance, having been gifted to Ian McLagan and autographed by Gary Panter on one of the back pages in 1980.
Additional Information: Gary Panter is recognized for his groundbreaking work during the punk movement, especially for his contribution to the visual identity of punk culture with his unique illustrative style. Most notable during this era, Panter worked on the graphics for "Pee-wee's Playhouse" and produced numerous comics and flyers that became synonymous with the punk aesthetic. His early work, including zines like Okupant X, reflects the experimental and raw spirit of the late 1970s punk scene.
Provenance/Authenticity: This lot comes directly from the private collection of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Ian McLagan, legendary founder and keyboard player of iconic rock band The Small Faces / Faces. McLagan who also toured with The Rolling Stones, The New Barbarians and Bob Dylan, and recorded with dozens of artists. It will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Lee McLagan, on behalf of the Ian McLagan estate.
Condition: The zine is in very good condition, presenting as a well-preserved example of this independent publication. It shows common signs of wear, aging, and storage, including some wear to the cover and paper warpage along the bottom quarter of the pages. These characteristics are typical for high-impact, DIY press items of this era and do not detract from the significance of this collectible.
