Provenance / Authenticity: The items in this lot are sourced directly from the personal archives of renowned photojournalist Waring Abbott. Ace Frehley was the founding lead guitarist of KISS, the New York band formed in 1973 whose kabuki-style makeup, comic-book personas and pyrotechnic stage shows reshaped expectations of what a rock concert could be. As the "Spaceman," Frehley brought a melodic, blues-rooted guitar style that influenced a generation of hard rock and heavy metal players, and his 1978 solo album, featuring the hit "New York Groove," proved the most commercially successful of the four solo records the members released simultaneously that year. In 1974 KISS was a newly signed Casablanca Records act building its following through relentless touring, and the original lineup of Frehley, Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
