Item Details: Straight from the private collection of iconic rock photographer Waring Abbott, this premium lot includes four 8 x 10 black-and-white prints capturing all four original members—Peter Criss, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, and Gene Simmons—reclined in salon chairs receiving facials at the Georgette Klinger Salon on April 30, 1974. These historic, candid images offer a famously humorous and rare look at the band during their definitive early era. Each highly collectible print is hand-signed and numbered by Waring Abbott and features his official photographer stamp or decal on the reverse. The lot is in good condition, showing standard production-use wear including mild waving, punched holes, some rough edges, corner wear, and typical age-related discoloration.
Provenance / Authenticity: The items in this lot are sourced directly from the personal archives of renowned photojournalist Waring Abbott. Abbott’s iconic imagery has graced the pages of Time, Newsweek, People, Rolling Stone, and countless foreign publications, alongside legendary album covers and photo spreads for KISS, Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, and Bob Dylan and others.
Formed in New York City in 1973, KISS released their self-titled debut album on Casablanca Records in February 1974 and spent that year building an audience through relentless touring rather than radio play. Their greasepaint personas (the Starchild, the Demon, the Spaceman and the Catman), together with pyrotechnics and theatrical staging, made the visual presentation of a rock band as central as the music itself, an approach that culminated in the commercial breakthrough of the 1975 live album Alive! The band's attention to image, merchandising and fan culture shaped how rock acts marketed themselves for decades, and the original lineup of Stanley, Simmons, Frehley and Criss was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
Condition: Good with mild waving, punched holes, some rough edges, edge and corner wear, mild discoloration due to age, and may show other common signs of age and storage.
