Item Details: Captured by renowned photographer Waring Abbott between January 25–27, 1976, this historic lot features four black-and-white 8 x 10 prints documenting KISS at the Detroit Airport Hilton just before their legendary Cobo Hall shows. The intimate candid images feature Paul Stanley with Carmen Clayton, Gene Simmons with Jeanette Frehley, Lydia Criss, Peter Criss, and manager Bill Aucoin. Sourced directly from Abbott’s private collection, each print is signed and numbered by the photographer with his official stamp on the reverse. The collection is in good to very good condition, showing mild edge and corner wear, minor border discoloration, a single punched hole on each print, and mild waving on one, offering an incredible behind-the-scenes glimpse into rock history.
Provenance / Authenticity: The items in this lot are sourced directly from the personal archives of renowned photojournalist Waring Abbott. Abbott’s iconic imagery has graced the pages of Time, Newsweek, People, Rolling Stone, and countless foreign publications, alongside legendary album covers and photo spreads for KISS, Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, and Bob Dylan and others.
By early 1976 KISS had grown from a cult act into an arena headliner, propelled by the 1975 double album Alive!, which became the band's commercial breakthrough and showed how effectively their theatrical stage show could translate to record. Detroit was among the first cities to embrace the group, a relationship celebrated on "Detroit Rock City," the opening track of the Destroyer album released that spring. Manager Bill Aucoin, who began guiding the band in 1973, was central to developing the makeup, pyrotechnics and merchandising that made KISS one of the most recognizable acts of the decade.
