Linkin Park, formed in Southern California in the late 1990s, combined alternative metal, hip-hop and electronic production, with Chester Bennington's vocals set against Mike Shinoda's rapping, and became one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the 2000s. Their 2000 debut album, Hybrid Theory, is widely cited as the best-selling debut album of the 21st century, and the band won Grammy Awards for "Crawling" and for "Numb/Encore," their collaboration with Jay-Z. Through later albums such as Meteora and Minutes to Midnight, the band continued to draw large audiences and influenced a generation of rock and crossover artists until Bennington's death in 2017.
