Provenance / Authenticity: The items in this lot are sourced directly from the personal archives of renowned photojournalist Waring Abbott. As a founding member of the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed brought frank depictions of urban life and an experimental, often abrasive guitar sound into rock music, and the band's 1967 debut with Nico, made under Andy Warhol's sponsorship, became a touchstone for punk, new wave and alternative rock. His solo career included the David Bowie and Mick Ronson-produced Transformer (1972), which yielded "Walk on the Wild Side," and in 1978 he released the album Street Hassle on Arista. Reed was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Velvet Underground in 1996 and again as a solo artist in 2015.
