Item Details: Up for auction is a 2005 Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass featuring serial number DZ4122406, owned and played by original Van Halen bassist and accomplished luthier Mark Stone. This premium instrument features a classic 3-color sunburst finish on a contoured alder body, a maple fingerboard, and deluxe lightweight tuners. Engineered for sonic versatility, it comes equipped with a three-band active EQ paired with a vintage Precision Bass pickup and a special-design humbucking pickup. Included with its original hardshell case and guitar strap, this authentic, player-worn instrument is sourced directly from Stone's personal collection and is sold strictly as-is as a premier piece of rock history.
Provenance / Authenticity: This lot originates directly from the personal collection of Mark Stone, a multi-talented artist who was the original bass player and backing vocalist for Mammoth and Van Halen from 1972 to 1974 and an accomplished luthier. As a foundational figure in the band's legendary early history, Stone performed on their seminal studio demos and extended his creative contributions by designing the iconic original band logo utilized by Mammoth and early Van Halen. Offered directly from his estate, these historic items will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by an authorized representative of the Stone estate.
Mark Stone played bass in Mammoth, the Pasadena band led by brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen, during the formative years that led to its renaming as Van Halen, and he was succeeded by Michael Anthony in 1974. The group went on to become one of the most influential hard rock acts of its era: its 1978 debut album earned Diamond certification in the United States, and Eddie Van Halen's two-handed tapping technique reshaped rock guitar playing. Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, and Stone's tenure belongs to the band's earliest chapter in the Southern California club and backyard party scene.
Condition: Very good, sold as-is with mild wear from play, may show common signs of age and storage. Comes with hardshell case. Fender serial number DZ4122406.
