With James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and bassist Cliff Burton, Metallica recorded Kill 'Em All (1983), Ride the Lightning (1984) and Master of Puppets (1986), albums that helped define thrash metal and brought complex, aggressive songwriting to a mass audience largely without radio support. Burton's melodic, classically informed bass playing and his role as a songwriter shaped the band's sound during this period. His death in a tour bus accident in Sweden in September 1986 closed the era, and Master of Puppets later became the first metal album selected for the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry.
Condition: Good with signs of age
