Item Details: Up for auction is a monumental piece of blues-rock history: a 1968 Cadet Concept pressing of Muddy Waters' experimental masterpiece, Electric Mud. This highly sought-after LP is the Monarch pressing variant, carrying the catalog number LPS 314. Most significantly, the inside gatefold features a beautiful vintage autograph in blue ink, personalized and dedicated "to John and Mary Muddy Waters" by the blues legend himself. This album famously bridged the gap between traditional Chicago blues and psychedelic rock, making an autographed copy a premier center-piece for any serious music archive.

Muddy Waters, whose amplified Delta-rooted recordings for Chess Records helped define postwar Chicago blues, deeply influenced the British and American rock musicians of the 1960s; the Rolling Stones took their name from his song "Rollin' Stone," and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Electric Mud, produced by Marshall Chess for the Cadet Concept label, placed Waters in a psychedelic rock setting with arranger Charles Stepney and guitarists including Pete Cosey and Phil Upchurch, in an effort to reach the young rock audience that admired his earlier work. The album sold well, but many blues purists criticized it and Waters himself later spoke dismissively of it; it has since been reassessed as an unusual and influential experiment in fusing blues with heavy rock and funk.
Condition: The record vinyl is in good condition, while the album jacket is in fair condition, exhibiting definite signs of wear, aging, and long-term storage. The jacket showcases noticeable ring wear and edge wear, along with some staining and a pen mark on the front cover. Additionally, the gatefold opening is split along the top seam. This item shows the honest patina of a well-loved album from a historic era, and the interior signed gatefold remains an exceptional display piece.
