Released in 1976, 2112 was Rush's fourth studio album and the commercial breakthrough that secured the Canadian trio's future after the disappointing sales of Caress of Steel had left the band under pressure from their label. Its 20-minute title suite, a science fiction narrative with lyrics by drummer Neil Peart inspired by the writings of Ayn Rand, filled the entire first side of the record and showed that an ambitious, long-form concept piece could connect with a wide hard rock audience. The album established Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Peart as a major touring and recording act and set the course for their progressive work later in the 1970s.
Condition: The award is preserved in very good condition, showing honest signs of wear, aging, and storage that reflect its decades of history. The front plexiglass shows light marks and smudges consistent with handling over time, and the internal presentation plaque is positioned slightly askew within the display. Structurally, the right side of the frame had previously started to separate and has been stabilized with wood glue, securing the vintage frame while preserving the entirely original components of this historic rock and roll award.
