Formed in Hanover by guitarist Rudolf Schenker in the mid-1960s, the Scorpions became one of the first German rock bands to achieve sustained international success, building a large following in Japan, Europe and North America with a sound that combined heavy guitar riffs and melodic power ballads. Fronted by Klaus Meine and featuring the twin guitars of Schenker and Matthias Jabs, the group reached a commercial peak in the 1980s with the album "Love at First Sting" and the single "Rock You Like a Hurricane," then released "Wind of Change," a song closely associated with the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall era. Their 2004 album "Unbreakable" marked a return to a harder rock sound for the band.
