Formed in Huntington Park, California, in 1981, Slayer became one of the "Big Four" of American thrash metal alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax, and their 1986 album "Reign in Blood," produced by Rick Rubin, remains a benchmark for speed and aggression in extreme music. The band entered a new chapter after co-founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman died in 2013, with Exodus guitarist Gary Holt joining permanently and drummer Paul Bostaph returning in place of Dave Lombardo. This lineup, with founders Tom Araya and Kerry King, recorded the band's final studio album, "Repentless" (2015), and carried Slayer through to its farewell tour, which concluded in 2019.
