Formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995, Slipknot became one of the most commercially successful heavy metal acts of their generation, known for their nine-member lineup, masks and matching jumpsuits, and an aggressive sound blending metal, hardcore and percussion-heavy textures. Their self-titled 1999 debut on Roadrunner Records brought them to a mainstream audience, and in 2006 they won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for "Before I Forget." After the 2010 death of bassist Paul Gray and the 2013 departure of drummer Joey Jordison, the band continued with drummer Jay Weinberg and bassist Alessandro Venturella, and their 2014 album .5: The Gray Chapter debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
