Offered Here: The Doors 1970 Long Beach Arena Concert Handbill With COA

Item Details: This is a remarkable opportunity to acquire an original concert handbill for The Doors performing live at the Long Beach Arena on February 7, 1970. Measuring 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 inches, this historic artifact captures the raw energy and counterculture spirit of Jim Morrison and the band during a defining year of their career.

Provenance / Authenticity: This lot originates directly from the personal collection of Mark Stone, a multi-talented artist who was the original bass player and backing vocalist for Mammoth and Van Halen from 1972 to 1974 and an accomplished luthier. As a foundational figure in the band's legendary early history, Stone performed on their seminal studio demos and extended his creative contributions by designing the iconic original band logo utilized by Mammoth and early Van Halen. Offered directly from his estate, these historic items will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by an authorized representative of the Stone estate.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1965, The Doors combined Jim Morrison's poetic, often confrontational lyrics and stage presence with Ray Manzarek's keyboards, Robby Krieger's guitar and John Densmore's jazz-influenced drumming, a lineup that notably worked without a regular bass player in concert. After "Light My Fire" reached No. 1 in 1967, the band became one of the defining acts of the American counterculture, though by 1970 they were working to rebuild their touring career after the fallout from Morrison's 1969 Miami concert arrest led many venues to cancel their shows. The group recorded only one more studio album with Morrison, L.A. Woman, before his death in Paris in July 1971, and their recordings and reputation as a live act have kept them among the most widely heard bands of the 1960s.

Condition: The handbill is in good condition and clearly displays its authentic vintage character through common signs of wear, aging, and storage. There is visible creasing throughout the paper, which is especially noticeable along the top portion of the item. Additionally, the piece shows stains from liquid exposure on the top front as well as on the back, along with standard edge wear and small nicks along both the top and bottom borders. Pin holes are present in each corner, indicating its likely history of being proudly displayed by an early fan.
