This lot presents an original poster for the Muleskinners, a mid-1960s rhythm and blues band connected with Ian McLagan. The artwork was produced by either McLagan or his associate Colin Fulcher, later known as Barney Bubbles. It includes a 1965 British Poster Design Award notification letter and an award certificate tied to a separate submission by McLagan. Additionally, the original 1965 mailing tube is included, offering comprehensive provenance.
Additional Information: The Muleskinners were part of the mid-1960s British mod and R&B movement. Ian McLagan later joined The Small Faces, while Colin Fulcher, as Barney Bubbles, became an influential graphic designer, recognized for his work with Hawkwind and Elvis Costello. Their designs marked a shift in music promotion and album art, foreshadowing the styles of the late 1960s and 1970s.
Provenance/Authenticity: This lot comes directly from the private collection of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Ian McLagan, legendary founder and keyboard player of iconic rock band The Small Faces / Faces. McLagan who also toured with The Rolling Stones, The New Barbarians and Bob Dylan, and recorded with dozens of artists. It will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Lee McLagan, on behalf of the Ian McLagan estate.
Condition: The poster is in excellent condition with minor edge wear, typical of its age. It has been folded three times, a common practice for promotional materials of the time, but maintains its vibrant appearance and structural soundness. The award certificate and notification letter are in good condition, preserved within their original 1965 mailing tube, completing this rare historical collection.
