Offered Here: Van Halen 1969-1974 Mark Stone Owned & Worn Flare Jeans With COA

Item Details: This is an extraordinary, museum-quality piece of rock history featuring a pair of flare jeans owned and stage worn by Mark Stone, the original bassist for Mammoth and Van Halen between 1969 and 1974. Representing the absolute genesis of one of the world's greatest rock bands, these jeans are a tangible artifact from the foundational club days when Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and Mark Stone were forging their legendary sound. The custom-tailored denim encapsulates the quintessential glam and hard rock aesthetic of the early 1970s Sunset Strip scene, featuring vibrant silver lame fabric inserts added to the sides of the legs to create dramatic flares. Enhancing the stage-ready look are rows of silver star studs running down either side of the lame fabric on each leg from the knee down. While the original size tag is no longer present, the jeans feature a 29 inch waist and a 30 inch inseam. Authentic, stage-worn attire from Van Halen's pre-fame era is virtually non-existent on the open market, making this an unparalleled centerpiece for any premier rock and roll archive or elite music collection. Also included is a photograph from the era showing Mark wearing the pants during a concert performance. Please bear in mind this item is being sold as a collectible piece and not a wearable item.

Provenance / Authenticity: This lot originates directly from the personal collection of Mark Stone, a multi-talented artist who was the original bass player and backing vocalist for Mammoth and Van Halen from 1972 to 1974 and an accomplished luthier. As a foundational figure in the band's legendary early history, Stone performed on their seminal studio demos and extended his creative contributions by designing the iconic original band logo utilized by Mammoth and early Van Halen. Offered directly from his estate, these historic items will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by an authorized representative of the Stone estate.

Before Van Halen became one of the most influential hard rock bands of the late 1970s and 1980s, brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen developed their sound in the Pasadena area under the name Mammoth, playing backyard parties, school dances and local clubs with bassist Mark Stone before David Lee Roth joined and the group adopted the Van Halen name. After Michael Anthony replaced Stone in 1974, the band went on to release its self-titled debut album on Warner Bros. in 1978, a record whose instrumental "Eruption" brought Eddie Van Halen's two-handed tapping technique to a wide audience and reshaped the vocabulary of rock guitar. Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, and its early Southern California years are widely regarded as the period in which that approach took shape.

Condition: The jeans are in good condition, exhibiting heavy signs of authentic stage wear, aging, and decades of storage that thoroughly validate their historic rock pedigree. They display overall discoloration and heavy fabric wear, along with prominent dirt staining scattered across the front and back of the legs and the seat of the denim. The seam at the crotch directly below the zipper is split, and the left leg hem of the custom silver lame fabric shows distinct signs of fraying and unraveling from real-world performance use. This heavily weathered patina provides an undeniable, rock-star character that beautifully reflects their historical significance.
