Offered Here: Van Halen 1972 Mammoth Extremely Rare Early Live Tracks CD-R With COA

Item Details: This incredibly rare live audio archive captures the pre-Van Halen era of the band performing under their original name, Mammoth. Sourced directly from the personal collection of original bassist Mark Stone, this single CD-R features an eight-song set recorded during a 1972 performance at The Gas Co. The disc contains raw, historic WMA audio files tracking powerful early performances of covers and originals, including "Funk #49," "Mailman," "Toad," "Cover Tune," "Original," "War Pigs," "Milk & Honey," and "Grand Funk." This lot offers an unparalleled glimpse into the foundational days of one of rock's greatest acts. Immediate digital transfer to secondary storage is highly recommended to ensure the long-term preservation of these rare digital files.

Provenance / Authenticity: This lot originates directly from the personal collection of Mark Stone, a multi-talented artist who was the original bass player and backing vocalist for Mammoth and Van Halen from 1972 to 1974 and an accomplished luthier. As a foundational figure in the band's legendary early history, Stone performed on their seminal studio demos and extended his creative contributions by designing the iconic original band logo utilized by Mammoth and early Van Halen. Offered directly from his estate, these historic items will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by an authorized representative of the Stone estate.

Before they became Van Halen, brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen led Mammoth, a Pasadena-area band that built its following at backyard parties and local clubs on covers of hard rock acts such as Cream, Black Sabbath and Grand Funk Railroad, with Eddie initially handling lead vocals. After David Lee Roth joined and the group learned another band already held the Mammoth name, they renamed themselves Van Halen in 1974, and bassist Michael Anthony soon completed the classic lineup. Their 1978 self-titled debut on Warner Bros. introduced Eddie Van Halen's two-handed tapping and inventive tone to a wide audience, reshaping rock guitar playing and making Van Halen one of the most influential hard rock bands of the late 1970s and 1980s.

Condition: Good. CD-R has some scratches but all files appear to be ok. It is recommended that the buyer transfer these files immediately to another CD-R, hard drive or some kind of secondary storage for preservation purposes.
