Offered Here: Van Halen 1973 Mammoth La Puente Park August Concert Poster With COA

Item Details: An extraordinary and visually striking piece of rock music history, this lot features a rare, large-format original concert poster from the pivotal summer before the band changed their name. Measuring 13 1/2 x 20 inches, this impressive archive piece promotes the free concert held on Wednesday, August 8, 1973, at La Puente Park. The poster bills Mammoth as the centerpiece of a three-band lineup, serving as a prominent visual testament to the burgeoning Southern California counterculture scene that fueled the group's early rise. Its superior size and presence make it a premier display piece for any elite music collection.

Provenance / Authenticity: This lot originates directly from the personal collection of Mark Stone, a multi-talented artist who was the original bass player and backing vocalist for Mammoth and Van Halen from 1972 to 1974 and an accomplished luthier. As a foundational figure in the band's legendary early history, Stone performed on their seminal studio demos and extended his creative contributions by designing the iconic original band logo utilized by Mammoth and early Van Halen. Offered directly from his estate, these historic items will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by an authorized representative of the Stone estate.

Mammoth was the Pasadena-area band formed by brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen, which built a local following in the early 1970s through backyard parties, park concerts and club dates across Southern California before adding singer David Lee Roth and changing its name to Van Halen after learning another group already used the name Mammoth. With bassist Michael Anthony replacing Mark Stone, the band signed with Warner Bros. and released its self-titled debut in 1978, which introduced Eddie Van Halen's two-handed tapping technique on "Eruption" and reshaped the sound and approach of hard rock guitar for the following decade. Van Halen became one of the most commercially successful American rock bands and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

Condition: This historic poster is in exceptionally good condition, presenting with remarkably few signs of wear, aging, or prolonged storage for an item of its size and age. Reflecting its authentic history, the poster has been folded twice into quarters, resulting in clean fold lines consistent with its original distribution or storage methods. Aside from these folds, the paper remains crisp and clean, qualifying as a beautifully preserved artifact.
