Offered Here: Van Halen 1975 The Gas Company Opening Event Flyer With COA

Item Details: This is a compelling and highly enigmatic piece of early Southern California rock history featuring an original 8 1/2 x 11 inch promotional flyer for the grand opening event of the new location of The Gas Company. Situated at 1515 East Colorado Boulevard directly across from Pasadena City College, this live entertainment venue was designed to showcase two bands every Friday and Saturday night. While historical audio recordings exist of the band performing under their early moniker Mammoth at the original Gas Company location in 1972, official documentation regarding Van Halen's appearances at this newer venue remains incredibly scarce outside of nostalgic social media recollections. This flyer provides an invaluable physical link to the local Pasadena circuit that nurtured the band during their crucial mid-1970s club days as they transition towards global stardom, making it a stellar addition for dedicated music historians and advanced Van Halen archivists.

Provenance / Authenticity: This lot originates directly from the personal collection of Mark Stone, a multi-talented artist who was the original bass player and backing vocalist for Mammoth and Van Halen from 1972 to 1974 and an accomplished luthier. As a foundational figure in the band's legendary early history, Stone performed on their seminal studio demos and extended his creative contributions by designing the iconic original band logo utilized by Mammoth and early Van Halen. Offered directly from his estate, these historic items will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by an authorized representative of the Stone estate.

Van Halen grew out of the Pasadena area, where brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen, singer David Lee Roth and, later, bassist Michael Anthony built a devoted local following through backyard parties, high school dances and club residencies before adopting the Van Halen name in place of Mammoth. Years of playing covers and originals on that Southern California circuit sharpened the band's high-energy stage show and led to their discovery by producer Ted Templeman and a contract with Warner Bros. Records. Their 1978 debut album and Eddie Van Halen's two-handed tapping technique, showcased on "Eruption," reshaped rock guitar playing and made Van Halen one of the most influential hard rock bands of the late 1970s and 1980s.

Condition: The flyer is in particularly good condition, retaining excellent overall structural integrity while exhibiting minor signs of vintage wear, aging, and handled storage. The paper remains clean and smooth, and the promotional text and layout are completely clear and legible. Authentic evidence of its long-term preservation is visible through light foxing that has occurred around the outer edges of the sheet. These gentle characteristics of age are entirely typical for a piece of mid-1970s concert ephemera and do not detract from its significant historical and display value.
