Offered Here: ZZ Top 1980 Deguello/Expect No Quarter Tour Lot of 18 Concert Tickets
Item Details: Offered now is a substantial and highly collectible archive of classic rock history featuring this ZZ Top 1980 Deguello/Expect No Quarter Tour lot of 18 concert tickets. This impressive, comprehensive collection spans from February through November 1980, documenting the high-octane period following the release of their masterpiece Deguello album. The lot contains a massive assortment of eighteen distinct United States and international concert tickets and stubs, mapping out the band's relentless touring schedule as they solidified their status as the premier live power trio in rock music. It represents a phenomenal, ready-made display or a deep-dive archival addition for any dedicated music ephemera investor.
Provenance / Authenticity: This lot comes from the archives of Bill “Pete” Tickle, who was hired as a crew member in 1969 by ZZ Top manager Bill Ham. With there already being two Billy’s (Gibbons and Ham), and to avoid any additional first name confusion, Tickle was called “Pete” from that point forward. In the years following, Tickle contributed to the recording of the song “Mushmouth Shoutin” in 1972 on the Rio Grande Mud album, became production manager, and eventually the band’s tour manager. He parted ways with ZZ Top in 1984 and passed away in 2018.
ZZ Top's Deguello, released in late 1979 as the trio's first album for Warner Bros., ended a hiatus that followed the expansive Worldwide Texas Tour and showed Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard returning with a sharper, more streamlined take on their Texas blues-boogie. Songs such as "Cheap Sunglasses" and their cover of Sam & Dave's "I Thank You" became staples of the band's repertoire, and the record's leaner approach pointed toward the sound they would develop on El Loco and the commercially successful Eliminator. The extensive touring that supported Deguello kept ZZ Top among the busiest live acts in American rock as the band moved into the 1980s.
Condition: The vintage tickets and stubs are in very good to good condition, exhibiting common signs of wear, ageing, and storage typical of authentic concert paper stock from nearly half a century ago. The lot contains a mix of full intact tickets and standard venue stubs, with all items retaining clear, legible print, venue names, and tour dates alongside the fantastic retro graphic elements unique to the 1980 concert season.
