Formed in Basildon, England, in 1980, Depeche Mode helped bring synthesizer-based music from the post-punk underground into stadiums, with albums such as Music for the Masses and Violator and songs like "Personal Jesus" and "Enjoy the Silence" shaping alternative rock, industrial and electronic dance music. From the mid-1990s onward the band worked as the trio of Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher, a lineup that ended with Fletcher's death in May 2022, and Depeche Mode was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
