Item Details: This is a stellar acquisition opportunity for serious music memorabilia investors and art collectors: an authentic 2011 original illustration by Derek Riggs, the legendary artist who defined the visual identity of Iron Maiden. Entitled Bondage Eddie, this piece is masterfully executed using a common Bic pen on watercolor board, showcasing the intricate hatching and raw energy characteristic of Riggs' distinct style. The imagery captures a powerful depiction of the iconic Piece of Mind-era Eddie, complete with his trademark padded cell restraints, making it a definitive tribute to one of heavy metal's most celebrated eras. The artwork is fully matted and backed, measuring approximately 16 1/4 by 21 1/2 inches, offering an impressive visual presence that is ready for professional framing.
Provenance / Authenticity: Includes a certificate of authenticity from and signed by Derek Riggs
Derek Riggs created Eddie, the undead figure who first appeared on the cover of Iron Maiden's self-titled 1980 debut and went on to become the band's mascot, featured on its album sleeves, singles, merchandise and stage shows. Riggs painted the covers for the band's major releases through the 1980s, including 1983's Piece of Mind, which showed a lobotomized Eddie chained in a padded cell and was the band's first album with drummer Nicko McBrain. His work helped establish a model for how heavy metal bands use a consistent visual character to build an identity that fans recognize independently of the music itself.
Condition: The artwork is in extremely good condition, exhibiting very little sign of wear, aging, or storage. The pen ink remains sharp and distinct on the watercolor board, which has been well-preserved and kept flat. Both the matting and backing are clean and intact, providing excellent structure and protection for the original piece until it is permanently framed.
