"Rise to It" comes from KISS's 1989 album Hot in the Shade, released during the band's non-makeup era that began when Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley publicly appeared without their trademark face paint for 1983's Lick It Up. Its music video opens with Simmons and Stanley briefly back in their 1970s makeup, a nod to the theatrical image that had made KISS one of the best-known acts in hard rock. As co-founder, bassist and vocalist, Simmons helped carry the band through the late 1980s, a period when KISS adapted to the pop-metal landscape while remaining a consistent presence on MTV and the arena circuit.
