Ozzy Osbourne rose to prominence as the vocalist of Black Sabbath, the Birmingham band formed in 1968 and widely credited with establishing the sound of heavy metal, before launching a solo career in 1980 with Blizzard of Ozz, featuring guitarist Randy Rhoads. The mid-1990s marked a period of renewal for him: he released the album Ozzmosis in 1995, and in 1996 he and his wife and manager Sharon Osbourne launched Ozzfest, a touring festival that became an important showcase for heavy metal and hard rock acts over the following decades. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006.
