Offered Here: Prince 1982-1983 Handwritten Lyrics For Moonbeam Levels
Item Details: This extremely rare artifact features Prince's handwritten lyrics for the legendary track "Moonbeam Levels," penned in a mix of black ballpoint pen and pencil on a frayed notebook page between 1982 and 1983. Originating from the fertile creative era of 1999, this mythic composition was famously considered and pulled from multiple seminal albums—including 1999, Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day, Parade, and the canceled 1988 project Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic—before becoming his first posthumous release on the 2016 compilation 4Ever. The song remains a masterclass in Prince's unparalleled solo genius, showcasing a track where he famously handled lead and backing vocals, piano, Oberheim OB-Xa, electric guitars, bass, Linn LM-1, and Pearl SY-1 Syncussion. This distressed notebook page represents a profound piece of pop music history, offering an intimate look into the meticulous songwriting process of one of music's greatest icons.
Provenance / Authenticity: JSA Authentication Number ZZ94960
Prince wrote, arranged, produced and often played nearly every instrument on his recordings, and his 1982 double album 1999, with singles such as "Little Red Corvette," brought his blend of funk, rock, pop and new wave to a mainstream audience ahead of the breakthrough of Purple Rain. He was also known for a prolific working method that left a large archive of unreleased songs in his vault, and "Moonbeam Levels," recorded during the 1999 era, remained unissued for more than three decades. The song was finally released on the 2016 compilation 4Ever as the first previously unheard Prince recording made public after his death in April of that year.
Condition: Good. This is a page torn from a notebook.
