This original handbill from May 1965 promoted an event at the Riverside Club located in the Cricketers Hotel, Chertsey, a significant venue in the 1960s British blues and R&B scene. The flyer announces a Sunday, May 2nd performance by The Muleskinners, the early band of future Small Faces and Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan. The handbill presents a glimpse into "Swinging London," showcasing a lineup that included other notable acts such as John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and the Ram Jam Band. The handbill measures 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches.
Additional Information: During the 1960s, the Riverside Club was an integral part of the British blues and R&B movement. The Muleskinners, featuring a young Ian McLagan who would later join famous bands The Small Faces and Faces, were part of this vibrant scene. Notably, the club featured performances from John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, highlighting its role in the career of several legendary musicians.
Provenance/Authenticity: This lot comes directly from the private collection of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Ian McLagan, legendary founder and keyboard player of iconic rock band The Small Faces / Faces. McLagan who also toured with The Rolling Stones, The New Barbarians and Bob Dylan, and recorded with dozens of artists. It will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Lee McLagan, on behalf of the Ian McLagan estate.
Condition: This rare piece of ephemera is in exceptionally good condition, showing little sign of wear, aging, or storage despite its sixty-year history. The handbill retains its original dimensions of 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches and possesses no major defects or alterations.
