The Velvatones 1961 Business Cards, John Barbata Photo & Drum Receipt Lot
Wow! An impressive and collectible set of items from the first group that John Barbata played drums with, The Velvatones. Included here are two business cards for the group, along with a 3 1/2 inch instamatic photo print of John at the drums with saxophone player Jimmy from April 1961. Also featured is a sales contract statement receipt from Premier Music Company of San Luis Obispo, CA signed by John Barbata's father for the purchase of John's first drumkit at the tender age of 16 1/2. This was around the time he had left the Velvatones for The Ambassadors and eventually The Sentinals, whom he was with for the next five years. All of these items are in very good condition with common signs of ageing, wear, and storage. This lot comes from the estate of John Barbata, drummer for The Turtles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship. Barbata passed away in 2024 after a long career. He recorded 35 albums and was a session drummer on many more. A Certificate of Authenticity - signed by Barbata's estate - will be included with this lot.
